Geotechnical engineering is a practical science and among the “dirtiest” of the civil engineering fields. Your geotechnical engineering report contains a wealth of information you may not know is in there that can help you with your designs. Though the geotechnical subsurface investigation is too often looked at as a “check-the-box” exercise in early development especially in our region of North Texas, your geo report is much more. This presentation will walk through the parts of a geotechnical subsurface investigation report and provide some background as well as highlight the important parts. Additional topics include how to use information in the report, key items for our region, the design team relationship with geotechnical engineers, and considerations during construction.
About the Presenter:
Vince was born and raised in Miami, Florida then completed his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where he also played varsity water polo. Between graduating from UMass in 1999 and moving to Dallas in 2009, he worked in South Florida, New England, and New York / New Jersey performing geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing services. He also completed his master’s degree in civil/geotechnical engineering at Cornell University in 2003. Once in Dallas, he has continued working with local, regional, and national clients and leading small to large operations. He completed his MBA at Purdue University in 2025 and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas. He, his wife Jenn, and his family of 3 kids live in Flower Mound.
