Differential movement of a structure results in some type of distress, with the magnitude of distress proportional to the angular distortion. The potential for differential movement in expansive soils is commonly referred to as potential for vertical movement or rise.
Unfortunately, PVR is both a concept and a specific procedure. The purpose of this presentation will be to evaluate what PVR is and what it is not, and how the unknowns associated with the estimate impact decisions on design. Case studies will be included.
